What has changed in your institution that has made digital working easier? What changes have been made to digital working to increase inclusivity? What gems do you want others to know about?
The Jisc Digital Culture Forum is curating a collection of case studies of shifts in cultural norms/expectations and organisational practices which facilitated productive and rewarding digital working in universities and colleges in the last couple of years. These could be changes led from anywhere in an institution, including ‘from the top’, or by individuals or communities acting as ‘disruptors’.
We will collate and publish the collection of case studies. The aim is to learn from examples of change that have worked in practice, in order to build on that success and embed digital change more widely. Submissions should not exceed 1000 words and respond to three specific questions:
1. What exactly is the shift in culture and/or organisational practice that you wish to highlight? (Images, diagrams, cartoons are very welcome as ways to illustrate your example.)
2. What did ‘working well’ look like? (Who was impacted? What was it like? If you are able to include detail in the form of testimony, images, other evidence, then so much the better.)
3. How could this practice be spread? (Give as concrete advice as possible for people wishing to adopt the practice and/or suggest other contexts in which it should be considered.)
Examples you might choose to develop for your case study include:
- Initiatives to break down barriers between departments
- Development of flexible module/programme formats
- Co-creation of resources with students
- Changed meeting norms and/or expectations
The Jisc Digital Culture forum is a network of educators who want to create a digital culture in universities. For information about the background to this project, see our WonkHE piece: https://wonkhe.com/blogs/how-to-shape-digital-culture-in-higher-education/
